No Such Thing as a Selfless Good Deed
Giving is the real way to get what you want in the world. If you desire more time, give time to others. If you desire a great work ethic in your employees, have a great work ethic yourself. If you want deep love and connection in your relationships, give love freely and often.
When you start the cycle of receiving by giving first, two things happen:
- You take responsibility for your own experience by giving to the world what you want from the world.
- You accept that you already have what you need.
When you shift your focus away from what others can do for you to what you have to give to others or the world, you take back your control of your experience and happiness. When you realise that you already have enough (in fact, you have enough to share with others) you truly open up your life to abundance. It is in the process of giving that you truly receive.
In the words of iconic friends character, Joey Tribiani, “there is no such thing as a selfless good deed.” When you are generous to others you always receive something valuable in return, whether it’s an insight into yourself and your own life, or just learning to be grateful for what you have. I bet you can’t do a good thing for someone else without feeling great about it!
