Conditioning The Mind With Focus
Conditioning the mind is so important to achieving success.
Each and every person has a unique understanding of what reality really is. That is, we all experience the world differently. This is how the brain works. Because our brains are only able to handle a certain amount of input information at any given time, it is forced to sort through all the possible things around us and only take in certain information. Every single second there are approximately two million bits of information available for you to take in through the five senses. But the brain can only handle 126 of those bits. That’s 0.00006%! Out of 2 million possible things to process, the brain has to choose 126! That’s a really tiny amount! You can see how each person would have a different reality if we’re all choosing only 126 out of a possible 2 millions bits of information. This information is taken on via the five senses. This is then sorted by way of your internal filters resulting in your Internal Representations(IRs) of the external world. This map, if you will, inside your brain represents the world and becomes ‘reality’ for you. These Internal Representations are intimately intertwined with your internal state and your physiology, and all together these three lead to your behaviour.
Obviously, 126 bits of information out of two millions is destined to be arbitrary, isn’t it? Actually, there is a part of the brain called the Reticular Activating System (RAS) whose only responsibility is to bring more of what you’re focusing on into your awareness. This means that if you decide to find all the purple in your environment on your way to work in the morning, that’s exactly what your RAS will do. Think of the implications this has on your ability to master what you focus on. If you don’t instruct your RAS to seek out something that will support you, for example finding more ways to make passive income (if that’s one of your goals) then its up to your unconscious programming to determine what you focus on. And if you have limiting beliefs or ideas about yourself or your abilities that’s exactly what you’ll find in your reality. If you allow yourself to slip into unproductive patterns, your RAS will bring more of that into your focus. If you have an Internal Representation of yourself not being able to find more ways to make money passively, that’s all you will see when you look out into the world. If, on the other hand, you instruct your RAS to find you examples of ways to make more money passively, you’ll begin to see them everywhere. It’s vital that you give your RAS something to focus on that supports your goals. Do this every morning, and times throughout the day when you find yourself focusing on problems or obstacles rather than on solutions or the successful completion of your goals.
Taking the time to focus on what you want and set your RAS to help you get more of what you want is paramount for your success in achieving your goals. You must learn to condition your thinking to support you in creating the results you want. Thoughts are nothing more than energy, like your physical results. For this reason, if you expect to have a life surrounded by the things that you want, you must fill you head with thoughts accordingly. This isn’t new, in fact these same concepts can be found in thousands of year old texts.
